The best teen-TV show that never was plays like Clueless (1995) on crack. This is How The World Ends (2000) takes the humour, style and philosophy of Gregg Araki's Teenage Apocolypse Trilogy and makes it box-shaped for the MTV generation. Araki declared the premise of the series as "Twin Peaks for MTV" but unfortunately, once it was filmed, MTV failed to commission a series and the pilot was shelved. Perhaps it's because the cast weren't Sixteen and Pregnant enough or some such nonsense. 90's Television could have popped acid on our push-pops and offered us escapism, instead it rubbed teenage noses in their own mess by giving us Dawson and his rhetorical garble. So, this is how the world ends, not with a gang-bang but with a Joey!
The cast features cult figures such as Michael J.Anderson (The Man From Another Place - Twin Peaks), the late Justin Pierce (Casper from Larry Clark's Kids) and Araki regular James Duval. Watch the pilot in grainy VHS quality on YouTube.
