Black Swan (2010)

With art-house masterpieces Pi (1998) and Requiem for a Dream (2000) under his belt and following the mainstream success of The Wrestler (2008), expectations are exceedingly high for Darren Aronofsky's new movie Black Swan (2010).

The trailer is spellbinding and in parts evokes the nuance of Inland Empire (2006) and the horror of Rosemary's Baby (1968). It stars Natalie Portman as a ballet dancer whose career is jeopardised by a rival, played by Mila Kunis. It also has the exciting addition of Winona Ryder who has struggled to get decent roles since her shoplifting escapades and the fantastic Vincent Cassel.

The imagery is stunning and the artwork used to publicise the film alludes to Polish cinema art that has stumbled in vogue and recently seen a huge increase in popularity. Already the Saul Bass-esque advance UK Quad posters are selling for large sums of cash on auction sites which is unusual considering the film is yet to be released and there is not a movie star in site. The four images featured are limited edition D/S 1 Sheets used to promote the film internationally.

Black Swan is released 11 February 2011
