Ron English is famous for subvertising (making parodies of advertising campaigns, McDonalds in particular) and recently similar English techniques have been used in genuine UK political advertising campaigns, particularly the Conservative's billboard slurs at the former prime-minister.
English himself has famously hijacked billboards in protest to mass consumer advertising. Taking particular offence to Apple's use of Albert Einstein in one of their campaigns, English scaled the heights with an alternative - a picture of Charles Manson, with the slogan "Think Different", which is not only comical but masterfully intelligent.
Here is my favourite oil painting by Ron English. Marilyn with Mickeys, it tells you everything you need to know about Disneyfication. Click on the image to visit Popaganda and view more of his work. Without Ron English there would be no Banksy.
