It has been referred to as ‘The best new show since The Sopranos’ and is the creation of an award winning Soprano writer and also stars Tony Soprano’s cousin in the lead role.
Boardwalk Empire is set to rival Mad Men in the quality period drama stakes. The series unfolds in 1920’s Atlantic City and involves the illegal liquor trade which, judging by the trailer looks like it is washed down with lashings of violence and lavished with grandiose set-design on a scale of epic proportions.
Unfortunately, the series doesn’t air in the UK until early in the new-year. But with a pilot episode directed by Martin Scorcese and Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt in starring roles, Christmas can’t come quickly enough. It also has the added bonus of Kelly McDonald and the excellent Michael K. Williams (above), who played Omar so brilliantly in The Wire. Roll on January.
